Meet the Ohana at the Hanai Home!

I hope that this blog inspires you. Not in the way that you’ll look at my home and want it, or look at my cute smiling kids and wish yours would behave like that. Because trust me, my house can get very messy and my kids can be seriously cranky. But, I do hope that you’ll see my family and the uniqueness of it and be inspired to try something new.

We are blessed to be the parents of 10 exceptional young humans: three from birth, five adopted, and two currently in foster care. Three have different ways of movement and communication. We all have our special needs. We all do God’s work as best we can through running a farm, a community non-profit, and by learning and growing every day. Join us!

The intent of this blog is to introduce you to our family – our large, noisy, mismatched bunch of happy humans brought together by God through love, birth, adoption, and foster care.

It is my hope that by peeking into our life on this blog, hanai families like ours might become a little more normal in the world. Not that we are ‘normal’ by the standards of this world’s culture, but maybe unique should be the new normal.

I pray that after getting to know us you might be inspired to try the hanai lifestyle. The lifestyle of loving your neighbor a little more every day.

We have found that if you welcome another into your family, formally or informally, you will experience growth in your life and your heart. We want you to know that you can do this, too. God has something special and important for you to do. A plan that is beyond our understanding. We invite you to watch as this plan continues to unfold in our lives, and also to let His plan unfold in yours. Because if we can do it, anyone can.
