Photo Challenge for Kids:
A photography activity book and album to use with your instant mini camera, digital camera, or phone!
How I was inspired by the keiki of East Hawaii:
Last Christmas our non-profit, Hanai Ministries, gave over 400 gifts to children in foster care through our Hanai Angel Tree program. It was pure joy to be able to help out these kiddos.
The best part of this program is that the kids get to choose what they want for Christmas and then local church members give them exactly what they ask for.
Guess what so many kids wanted? Instax Mini Cameras!
It was definitely the hot item of 2021.
We gave away over 50 of them, and the kids were thrilled.
Fast forward a couple months...
I wonder what everyone is doing with all those cameras? Are they still getting use and bringing the kids joy?
Or are they laying around at the back of the closet like so many of MY OWN kid's forgotten gifts.
Inspiration strikes….and Photo Challenge for Kids is born!
It's an activity book and photo album in one. There are 13 activities and marked spaces for 40 pictures. It's educational! It's easy! It's fun!
Here are some key points I kept in mind when I was creating this book:
I wanted to keep it simple enough for a 6-10 year old to complete on their own (or a younger child to complete with an adult) and not too long so they can feel a sense of accomplishment from getting a job completely done.
I wanted to keep the number of pictures relatively small so that it wouldn’t require too much film for those using an instant camera. The book can be completed with 40 pictures, so about 4 rolls of film.
Kids can always add more pictures if they want.
Also, you don’t have to use a polaroid/instant style camera. You can use any camera and print the pictures.
Kids these days spend so much time looking at screens, right? But that’s the world we live in; digital is everywhere. I wanted to give them something fun to do with their gadgets that’s also hands-on and REAL.
Finally, I wanted to make it inexpensive. Photography is a huge part of modern life and it should be accessible to everyone. It’s under $10.00 on amazon!
And now for the best part:
Because I was inspired to create this first book by the hanai kids of East Hawaii, I pledge that for every book purchased, I will give one book FREE to a child in foster care!
I think I’m more excited about this than I was when the book was released!
So far, Photo Challenge for Kids is available only on Amazon.
Please check it out and let me know what you think in the comments!
Thanks for reading!
